From the ski resort, go to the Grand Canal and follow the bank across the old Copper Mine. When you meet the GR58 path, go down to the bridge below the chapel and follow the GR to the start of the path along the old Usclas Canal, taking the footbridge and returning to St Véran from the East.

From the Gîte, cross the village towards Ristolas and take the wooden walkway along the Guil torrent to Ristolas village. Discover the heritage of Queyras on this beautiful culture walk!

From the ski resort, walk up to Beauregard then follow the ridge to the Pic de Château-Renard (possible future OPTION of taking the chairlift to 2,600 metres). You can visit the Astronomical Observatory (book ahead) before taking the Old Copper Mine discovery trail back down. Guided tours available (book ahead). Return to St Véran via the Grand Canal or, in summer, take the shuttle bus from the Marble Quarry.

Turn right and head for the pass at 2,830 metres, to the left of Pic du Malrif. You'll first walk at the lakeside, then climb through grassland and scree. Stop at the pass. You can clearly see the top of Grand Glaiza (3,293m) and the ridge. Follow the ridge for an easy climb to your first peak of the day. Go back down to the Malrif pass (2,866m).

From the refuge follow the path along the Pierre Rouge torrent to the Malrif pass (2,868m). At the pass, turn left and follow the Eaux Pendantes ridge to Pic de Malrif for a beautiful view over the entire Queyras valley and the Italian Alps. On a clear, cold day you can even see Mont Blanc. For the descent, take the same route back to the pass and follow the GR trail to the Refuge des Fonts.

00:00: Go past Aiguilles Tourist Office, then down to the right. At the stop sign, go straight on, across the bridge, then follow the vehicle track straight ahead. After 300 metres, turn left then right immediately afterwards. You now have 15 minutes to chat on this easy track. 00:30: At the first hairpin bend, continue straight on along the path above the Peynin torrent. Cross the river to follow the opposite bank, upstream to the ford which marks the end of the vehicle track. (If you reach a forestry cabin you've gone to far!) 01:00: Cross the ford and follow the track to Peynin hamlet. 01:30: Just past the last house, turn left onto a path that enters a small forest of aspen. This crosses the track at an oratory and continues downhill to the start of the track you took on the outward trip. 02:00: You already know your way back!
