All one-day hikes

Start at St Véran below the ski resort on the Prat-Mian trail, cross the Bois des Amoureux (woods), then climb to the villages of Pierre-Grosse and Le Coin to reach the Rouchas-Frach Canal. Follow the canal to the ‘Memorial Site'. Take the road back down via the Notre Dame du Berceau oratory and Hannibal's Rock. At the Ariane Bridge: - Option 1: return directly to St Véran via the Bois des Amoureux, on the track that follows the river to the Route des Amoureux, which takes you back to St Véran. - Option 2: go back up to the Longet pass, then take the old Copper Mine discovery trail and return to St Véran via the Grand Canal.

Discovering the Queyras heritage. First of all a pleasant walk in the cool shade of a larch forest. A short visit to the Clos Henri and the St Simon chapel overlooking the Aigues valley. Marmots and flora along the way. A true haven of peace Then descent to La Chalp and return along the Aigue-Blanche.

From the little hamlet of La Rua, you'll walk through a larch forest to the Pré Fromage pass for a lovely view of Dent du Ratier, then head across the pastures to the Fromage pass before crossing a beautiful limestone landscape dotted with ‘witch holes', after the Fontantille plateau, then a balcony path to the Fromage pass. Next head for the Estronques pass for a view over the Ceillac valley. The entire loop offers a beautiful variety of views. From the Estronques pass, walk down to the Moulin bridge and return to La Rua along the Aigue-Blanche river.

From LE RIOU VERT, head for the Fromage pass via the Riou Vert valley, up through the forest to the footbridge. From the pass, walk up to the observatory (a former military lookout post) for a beautiful 360° view over the Ruine Blanche ravine, the Riou Vert valley, the Ceillac valley and Font Sancte. The crossing continues along ridges to the Bramousse pass, then down to Les Sagnes. From there, head for the Souillet pass and the Bramousse chalets before returning to BRAMOUSSE via the GR58 trail.

The Vars ridge runs between the Escreins valley, an ancient glacier valley with sharp peaks often exceeding heights of 3,200 metres, and the Vars villages occupying a flatter valley which is more conducive to farming. This hike takes you exploring each of the mountain levels which their own specific features, yet it remains accessible to most people.

From the gîte, take the bridge across the Bouchet torrent and follow the GR58 towards the Colette de Gilly (small col). You'll pass the little oratory of Sainte Marie Madeleine. This beautiful walk takes you through the forest and along a balcony path to the village of Valpreveyre, from where you'll take the GR58 hiking route leading through the forest back to Abriès.
