From the village square (Place Jean Léa), take the uphill street behind the fountain. Take the first turn left up to the church. Continue behind the church to the end of the cemetery and turn right onto a path leading up to the cross. From here you can sit on the seat to admire the plunging view over the village and try to identify the main square and the town hall roof. Next, follow the uphill path which leads below a house and onto the road. Then go 100 metres down to an electricity pylon on your right. After another 30 metres, pass between the safety barriers to take the footpath leading back to the village.

00:00: Go past Aiguilles Tourist Office, then down to the right. At the stop sign, go straight on, across the bridge, then follow the vehicle track straight ahead. After 300 metres, turn left then right immediately afterwards. You now have 15 minutes to chat on this easy track. 00:30: At the first hairpin bend, continue straight on along the path above the Peynin torrent. Cross the river to follow the opposite bank, upstream to the ford which marks the end of the vehicle track. (If you reach a forestry cabin you've gone to far!) 01:00: Cross the ford and follow the track to Peynin hamlet. 01:30: Just past the last house, turn left onto a path that enters a small forest of aspen. This crosses the track at an oratory and continues downhill to the start of the track you took on the outward trip. 02:00: You already know your way back!

00:00: Cross the village to the Lombard bridge. Before you cross, walk up to the left to take a smaller bridge. Then follow the GR trail which goes left and leads you to La Pause chalet. 00:45: Cross the track above the chalet and follow the red-and-white markers to the Eygliers chapel, then to the oratory to admire the view. 01:45: Continue on the GR trail through a larch forest, across a mountain pasture, up to a pass and finally to the great lake. 03:45: Time for a well-deserved picnic! Return via the same route to the junction with the ‘Bergerie du Lombard' sign. Go down to the sheepfold and past it back to the car park and the track leading to Aiguilles. On the last section you can take a shortcut via La Pause chalet. 06:00: What a great day!
